[from Wikipedia…]

Knowledge Management (KM) refers to the ways organizations gather, manage, and use the knowledge that they acquire.

A Knowledge Management Program introduces into an organization a range of specific processes and practices for identifying and capturing knowledge, know-how, expertise and other intellectual capital, and for making such knowledge assets available for transfer and reuse across the organization.

Knowledge management programs are typically tied to specific organizational objectives and are intended to lead to the achievement of specific targeted results such as improved performance, competitive advantage, or higher levels of innovation.

Glossary: Tags, Technorati Tags

Friday, January 20th, 2006

You might have spotted tags on some of the pages and articles on our website.
So what is a tag? Think of a tag as a simple category name. People can use tags to categorise their posts, photos, and links with any tag that makes sense. It’s part of what is sometimes referred to as the ‘Semantic Web’ or ‘Web 2.0′ as the tech geeks call it.

Glossary: Social Engineering

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

[From Wikipedia…]

Social engineering is the practice of obtaining confidential information by manipulation of legitimate users. A social engineer will commonly use the telephone or Internet to trick people into revealing sensitive information or getting them to do something that is against typical policies. By this method, social engineers exploit the natural tendency of a person to trust his or her word, rather than exploiting computer security holes. It is generally agreed upon that “users are the weak link” in security and this principle is what makes social engineering possible.

[from Matisse’s glossary of Internet terms…]

DEFINITION:

Blog — (weB LOG)
A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.” Blogs are typically updated daily using software that allows people with little or no technical background to update and maintain the blog.

Postings on a blog are almost always arranged in chronological order with the most recent additions featured most prominently.

It is common for blogs to be available as RSS feeds.
