[from Matisse’s glossary of Internet terms…]

DEFINITION:

Blog — (weB LOG)
A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.” Blogs are typically updated daily using software that allows people with little or no technical background to update and maintain the blog.

Postings on a blog are almost always arranged in chronological order with the most recent additions featured most prominently.

It is common for blogs to be available as RSS feeds.

DEFINITION: RSS is a method for publishing web site content. A person with a Web browser or a Feed reader automatically receives notice of new content on sites they have subscribed to. Note: The term RSS is now being replaced by Webfeed.

BENEFITS: Visitors don’t have to ‘find’ your web site again. Once they have subscribed to your Web feed they are made aware of any changes to your site the next time they look at their Web browser, or Feed reader.
